‘Bar Peser’ incident highlights again need for a Police investigating body

The need for an independent body to investigate Police conduct and brutality came under the harsh light again last week.

An incident, which started at ‘Bar Peser’ near the Indian Ocean Tuna factory involving ANB officers and a civilian highlighted this again.

Dareem Esparon claimed that after the ANB officers threatened him at the bar, he went to the ANB office to make a report, only to be hit and scratched by the same officers.Versions of the incident vary between Esparon and the officers, but with the absence of an investigative body, we may never know the right version.

The ANB claims that Esparon was obstructing their work during a narcotics operation, behaving in an aggressive and disorderly manner.

Esparon has lodged a complaint against the Seychelles Police Force.
