Danny Faure SETS up Vote machine as Ramkalawan & co. sleep on the job

The recent decision of the government to allow redundancies but set up the Board of Seychelles Employee Transition Scheme (SETS) shows clearly that the government has either completely lost the plot or is plotting for October.

SETS’ main objective is to pick up all the workers who have been made redundant and provide financial assistance and job training to them. It is a non-profit public sector enterprise mandated to facilitate the re-skilling and placement in an economic activity of persons who are being made redundant throughout this period of economic stagnation. Surely the more sensible option would have been to allow these workers to remain in employment and assist the employers financially under the FA4JR program. But the Opposition was sleeping on the job and let it through, or Wavel gave Danny a wink and closed one eye!SETS comprises of Chairman Aubrey Lucas and members Josianne Bristol, Diana Quatre, Xavier Estico, Ansley Constance, Iouana Pillay, Tina Hoareau, and Farida Camille. With Guy Morel as the CEO. It is clear that this is just another election gimmick to get people addicted to welfare until the election and then to throw them to the wolves after. However, at this stage it is important to note that this is as a result of the National Assembly giving President Faure 1.2 billion rupees without much fuss. He is now using that to his advantage politically to try buy this coming elections. The fact that tax payers’ money is being used to provide financial assistance to all sorts of people to prime them for the election is scandalous and disgraceful. The fact that the National Assembly seems to have dozed off and not calling the government to task leaves a lot to be desired as well in the country’s Opposition. The politicians who are supposed to safeguard the interest of the people have abdicated their responsibilities and allow the people to be manipulated for political ends. Abuse of public funds in this manner is unacceptable. After President Faure went on TV to announce that all private sector businesses will be assisted under the FA4JR program, this turned out to be the joke of the century as the government quickly made an about turn and refused to assist many Seychellois-owned businesses. This resulted in hundreds of Seychellois workers being made redundant and losing their jobs in July.

The government has now conveniently set up SETS under the guise that the US led government will assist them and will not let them suffer without an income for the foreseeable future. This is no more than a political gimmick designed to amass as much votes as possible in the October Presidential Elections and National Assembly also. All because Ramkalawan and company slept on the job!
