AUTHORITARIAN SPPF FATIGUE OR A SEARCH FOR A NEW PARADIGM?
We launch the first of a contributed 4-part article that digs a little deeper into the Seychellois psyche ahead of the October 2020 Elections
Will majoritarian Seselwa prolong their “Emancipative State of People’s Emergency” of 2016 or are we symbiotically heading again towards stealth or authoritarian populism and thus elite capture?Coming from a tradition of Revolutionary, Prophetic black-fire, I am thus, compelled in this surrealstate of Post-Covid fatigue and intense electoral-mongering to leave the noisy sphere, where everything takes place on the surface and go into the hidden abode of Production of Power. The intention definitely is thus, for me to go on the cross again and strike at the heart of unaccountable Power. This is the rationale behind my below “essay/opinionistas”.
On 5th June 1977, the rebel-authoritarian Prime Minister (then Albert Rene) led a “Putsch” against reason, love, justice and radical humanism which was so short lived under Sir James Mancham’s Presidency. Thereafter, Albert (with the complicity of so many Seselwa) became the first rebel –authoritarian Politician to erect the Machiavellian Canonical Legal Wisdom ”Princeps Legibus Solubus Est” (the Princeis not bound by the Laws) and hence the survival of his authoritarian fashion house (THE VAMPIRE’S CASTLE) for 43 years.
LEGIBUS SOLUBUS
As majoritarian Seselwa psychically and “on steroids” wrestled with and amongst themselves for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in October 2020, it will be the first time that the “Godfather cum the Don” (Albert) will not be around as the totalitarian architect of Legibus Solubus. Authoritarian United Seychelles is wounded and thus, it is seriously being threatened by the collective emancipative cry of Creoles for popular political, social, economical, restorative and redistributive justice-unlike the mob, punitive and telephone justice which it exercises under the AUTHORITARIAN LEGALITY of a nominal rule of law and rule by law practices. Tyranny is a form of government that corrupts itself, cultivating within itself the seeds of its own destruction. Thus, do the People of Seychelles want to continue with that “New Social Contract” of 2016 where Legibus Solubus and authoritarianism (satanic powers) was temporarily checkmated for the first time in our recent history?
DEATH OF THE DON
Following the death of the “Don” in 2019, both Wavel Ramkalawen (LDS) and Danny Faure (Parti Lepep) have been aggressively commoditizing, sterilizing and sanitizing themselves as our next “revolutionary Super-President” whose ruling coalition will magnanimously be based on science, pandemic-handling competence, love, reason, law, justice and not Legibus Solubus and rigid authoritarianism? Thus, the obvious logical question which inevitably crops up: is it so and if so, will it be so nominal as always? Simultaneously: are there not multiplicities of significant details in the historical and political fields explicitly telling us that if there is one fundamental symbiotic ideological similarity and solidarity between Wavel and Danny, it is that they are both conservative authoritarian characters? The latter is defined as someone who has a strong adherence to conventionalism,love power, toughness, law and order. An authoritarian leader is someone who enjoys authoritarian aggressions and lacks empathy. He cares only about his needs and has a very low tolerance to frustration. The authoritarian views the world as a jungle witha tendency to classify others as rivals who are perceived as either inferior or superior. Emotional intelligence is considered a sucking weak trait by an authoritarian personality-who truly believe in the white Darwinian authoritarian logic of compete ordie. The authoritarian character turns on its being a sadomasochistic structure involving an unconscious dependence in which a dominant person is dependent on those who depend on him. Therefore, the drive for power does not root in force but in weakness.
MORAL MAJORITY
To an authoritarian politics is the art of making his selfish desires seem like the national interests. Authoritarians often think their views are commonly held in society and that they are the “moral majority”. They harbor many double standards and hypocrisies seemingly without realizing it, which lead them to speak out of both sides of their mouths from one situation to another. Authoritarianism functioned as a “character-armor” which provided an external source of strength, security and certainty. This sadomasochistic character comes into two flavors: the powerful and the powerless. The authoritarian character loves those conditions that limit human freedoms and he is hard-wired into the fabric of bourgeois ideology. The authoritarian reaction constitutes nothing but a defense mechanism that accentuates submissive and domineering tendencies. He is less receptive towards information that may undermine the self and have strong aversions to novelty, unfamiliarity, instability and uncertainty like Covid 19. Psychoanalytically, this is in stark contrast to a “revolutionary character” who has a mindset/consciousness by which one is dominated by a love for life, true psychological freedom and spontaneity as espoused by Sir James Mancham; a secured-self with ruthlessness and clarity in the pursuit of love, reason and justice.
JUST LIKE CAIN
Just like the biblical Cain, the rebel-authoritarian Albert envied and hated Sir James for that. Sir James was a true legend who lives without a mask -that is he never repressed essential parts of himself and thus was transparent to himself, experiencing life, relating to people and always was himself. After two centuries of “slave morality” and aggressive passivity, in 2016 Seselwa was weaponized on a new plateau of temporary wokery and they escalated the first political division of powers and advantages between LDS and United Seychelles. The burden of electoral SPPF’S predictability/invincibility was broken down to the great delight of Wavel.
The absolute power – distance between the top down elites and the bottom up herd community seems basically surmountable. Henceforth, the FALSE CONSCIOUSNESS of Creoles began to undergo a gradual demystification process -sending ripples and resistance in the circulatory network(s) of both ancient and new elites in LDS and United Seychelles…….
