The Money of Politics is RISKY!

There is no question that the mechanics of Politics and Political campaigning costs money.

The Maths are simple: A politician needs to reach people to pass his messages and to reach people you need to print leaflets for them to read, and today you need to pay people to manage your Social Media to make sure your messages go out consistently and persistently.

It costs to move from one part of the island to another, to feed people who spend all day on the paths in the districts to spread your word.

But to take big money from a special group in society in return for promises of big jobs and preferential business treatment when you get into Government is not OK.Such a behaviour can make you sacrifice your principles, put other people at a disadvantage, and support one group of people unfairly.

In Politics speak, this is called DIRTY.Not to mention RISKY, because if you can’t deliver the people who gave you the money will come after you. Payback time is never pleasant. And if you don’t pay up you can be sure that someone in your government WILL have to pay up.

We are seeing this in the current run-up to the Presidential and District Elections and this newspaper has to line up alongside the Bishops of our Churches and call for FAIRPLAY.

The Seychellois people don’t need to suffer for Politics and personal GREED.
