Will Lalyans Seselwa take part?

There is a lot of speculations as to whether Lalyans Seselwa will be taking part in the legislative elections despite its leader insisting the party which created the conditions for the LDS’ 15-10 win in the 2016 race, will definitely do so. Since Pillay took Lalyans Seselwa out of the LDS in 2018, the party has been somewhat adrift financially, which has resulted in its inability to maintain momentum and as a result sympathizers and members started to drift away.

The entry of One Seychelles has also given those former LS sympathisers another option and eventually while St. Ange and his team has been growing steadily stronger, Lalyans Seselwa has been dimming. Last Sunday word broke that out of the twelve candidates who had consented to stand under the Lalyans Seselwa banner half have quit and only six remain. Patrick Pillay had stated that he would be announcing his district candidates last week, but eventually he is said to have announced that they would go directly to the Electoral Commission on nomination day.

While Mr. Pillay will still be presenting himself as Presidential candidate with the well admired Weston Wirtz as his running mate, should his party fail to present for the National Assembly race it would further undermine his prospects. No matter what happens and no matter how hard they try to brush off Ton Pat, LDS knows that without Lalyans Seselwa they would not be where they are today and they should be wary of losing what cannot be regained. Today LDS is merely SNP under a new name!
