WALK THE TALK!

It starts with the top but it must also permeate to other layers of the government structure if it is to be truly by the people for the people, and most importantly for the benefit of ALL the people.

“Good Governance, Transparency and Accountability” has to apply to the Executive as well as to the Legislative, the Judiciary, and Civil Society.

This week we highlight two areas that show considerable weakness.

1) The Anti-Corruption Commission of Seychelles (ACCS) is dragging its feet in the case of Corruption at the Public Utilities Corporation (PUC), so much so that the guys at PUC have time to start cleaning their computers of any tell-tales that might give their game away.

Likewise, the Board of the corporation is staying very silent, no doubt hoping the matter will go away.

2) The Public Health Authority and the Health Care Authority for their part need to practice “charity begins at home”. Whilst they have done a reasonably good job at managing the crisis of Covid-19 nationally, on their own home territory there are lapses.

At least 3-4 out of 10 patients and visitors walk through their Clinic doors WITHOUT a Mask, or with a mask under their nose, while their security and admission officers either turn a blind eye or are just not able to enforce the requirements. This is where the Media kicks in, as guardians and promoters of the rights and needs of the public.
