Ramkalwan -to run Seychelles as a business

Dear Mr. Editor,

Wavel Ramkalwan has put his cards on the table. The public will do well to note that the LDS candidate intends to “run Seychelles as an effective business” to use his own words. What is important to understand in this declaration is that LDS is all about taking care of the interests of the business sector. He even spelt this out when he gave his commitment to the business sector, saying he will work alongside them. There is nothing wrong in this except that if a country is to be run as a business and an effective business, it will have to first of all cut back on all the free services it offers its citizens. Does he intend to stop free health care, free education, free bus service for students and elderly and all the other social assistance the country currently has? A business is geared towards profit while a country can only strive to make certain savings and therefore pile up a good reserve. The LDS top guy said that there should be equal access to opportunities and to assistance and work, but in the same breath he talks about running the country as a business, but conveniently forgets that equal access does not exist in business! He did not even give his commitment to provide this equal opportunity but he managed to give his word to the business sector.

What is strange about this declaration from the LDS candidate is that Ramkalawan have never had or done any business on an elevated scale in his life. This is a ploy to try fool people that he will make this country prosperous. It is an empty promise just like the ones he made before the National Assembly elections of 2016 and has not delivered on any during the last four years as the majority party in the parliament. We hope the people have taken note!
