Wavel uses lawyer’s mistakes about date of incident to declare himself free of guilt

Marcus Volcere assaulted by Ramkalawan on 30th May 2020

MEN of fairness and reason, tell us, how many times must a man hit another man violently before we realise that such behavior is part of his trait, his trademark? And to add insult to injury, this time around, he didn’t hit a member of his political rivals, as he did once with Barry Faure in the National Assembly. He hit one of his own activists who had previously approached him to ask about his boycotting of the Methadone drug programme, and he did so with a hand that bore a ring on a finger, so the damage to the eye of the victim was even greater. We’re talking about Wavel Ramkalawan, a man who wants to be our next president, a man who usually doesn’t hesitate to sue people when he is sure he is in the right. This time, when we first published the story of the incident he kept quiet, hoping it would go away. Then we published it again, this time on our front page in last week’s issue, and when he saw that the plaintiff’s lawyer had made a mistake with the dates, he used the wrong dates as an alibi and called for a press conference to try and extricate himself from the case. And of course he seems to have the quiet support of the Commissioner of Police, Kishnan Labonte, who hasn’t made a move to investigate the case. Not to mention the quiet support of SBC who has been “nil by mouth” on the incident although we have heard a recording of SBC’s Russell Vidot interviewing the victim, until Saturday 11th July –a recording in which we hear the victim categorically state that the incident happened on a Saturday morning around 11.30am, a day when Wavel was NOT at the FPAC meeting in the Assembly, which he claimed as his alibi. After being hit by Ramkalawan, Steve Volcere was beaten up by police and locked up without charges!!! The electorate awaits
