Obstructing Pedestrian Movement

Dear Editor,

It is unfortunate that disabled, blind and elderly people are not considered when designing, planning and building pedestrian pavements despite big statements in support for those categories of people. None of the previous and current Executive or Legislative has ever shown concern to inacceptable practices by taking those irresponsible to task. Taxpayer’s money spent to procure traffic signs from undisclosed sources overseas but after those road furniture are not maintained, driving round the country would prove such. Any right-minded sensible person would never plant trees, install traffic signs, litter bins and street lights poles across pedestrian pavement particularly when it narrows. For years, locals and tourists are pleading about the trees across pedestrian pavement in front of Ocean gate House that obstructs movement particularly for persons using wheelchair and when trolling travelling cases to Inter Island Quay or Industrial Fishing Port because of unscrupulous taxi fares, but until today no one care or bother when thinking about the tourism industry. Ocean gate House has a large walkway covered veranda, therefore there is no need for those trees in the middle of pedestrian pavement. Same at Barrel Discotheque where leaves of palm trees hit the face of pedestrians.
